Collateral Damage
The recent chest-beating by the leftist media and U.N. in response to an Israeli attack on a Hamas leader that also killed several innocents has demonstrated the hypocricy of the way they view Israel in the recent conflict. When Israel accidentally kills innocents (and has vowed to launch an investigation into the incident), the entire world community (President Bush included) condemns it as genocide. Yet, when Arafat's goons target Israeli children at shopping malls and outdoor cafes, the Palestinians are called freedom fighters.
Furthermore, everyone ignores the fact that these people lived next to a person they knew was a Hamas leader. Wouldn't it be common sense to either move to another area or turn him over to the authorities? If neither instinct prevails, then it is hard for one to feel sympathy for the so-called innocents. They were either morally culpable for not handing a murderer of children over to the authorities or they were just plain stupid. If you live next to a bulls-eye and you know that there are missiles gunning for it, then it would be idiotic for you not to move the bulls-eye or move yourself.
This entire conflict disgusts me. What disgusts me even more, though, is the reaction by President Bush and Comrade Powell. They have been pro-Palestinian cheerleaders throughout. What they do not realize is that Arafat is not the only problem. The problem are the people of Palestine.
